Next Steps Night – Food for Thought

By Tyler Hybiak

At Next Steps Night on Wednesday, September 23rd at 6:00 to 7:30pm, Pantano High School provided families with a free BBQ and an excellent learning experience.

The goal of Next Steps Night was to connect students with training in welding, cosmetology, nursing, animation, construction, fire science, and much more. Programs like Vocational Training, PCC GCU,  Armed Forces, and JTED were there, telling students what courses they could take, and how to sign up. The JTED representative got my attention when she started talking about animation and game design programs. Jostens was also on site selling graduation caps, gowns, and tassels for December graduates.

In all, around 70 people attended the night, which was coordinated by Mr. Miller. “I think it was a fantastic success. We had a lot more people than we anticipated, and we ate a ton of hot dogs.” He also said that a lot of students seemed excited about moving forward with programs they heard about.

There will be no more Next Steps Nights this year, but there will be other events like it, including Pima College placement testing, and visits from JTED representatives.
